Do I have a drinking problem?
We can help you think it through, but I can’t determine from one question alone whether you have a drinking problem.
A useful starting point is to ask yourself:
- Do you often drink more or for longer than you intended?
- Have you tried to cut down and found it difficult?
- Do you spend a lot of time drinking, recovering from drinking, or thinking about drinking?
- Have friends, family, or coworkers expressed concern about your drinking?
- Has alcohol caused problems with your health, relationships, work, finances, or responsibilities?
- Do you continue drinking despite those problems?
- Do you need more alcohol than before to get the same effect?
- Do you experience withdrawal symptoms (such as shaking, sweating, anxiety, nausea, or trouble sleeping) when you stop drinking?
Answering “yes” to one or two of these doesn’t automatically mean you have an alcohol use disorder, but multiple “yes” answers can indicate that alcohol is becoming problematic.
We can help you evaluate those details using established screening criteria. Tel: 07811 606 606 (24 hours)
